James Hutton Exhibition and Event: The Fundamentals of Geology

5 October 2024 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

- Free

The exhibition celebrates the work of James Hutton who farmed at Slighhouses, Scottish Borders, during the eighteenth century.  By knowing the soils, landscapes and the cliffs of Berwickshire, James Hutton realised that geological time was far longer than the timeline previously suggested.  At Siccar Point on the Berwickshire coast he found evidence in the rocks that laid the foundations for his insight into deep time.

Head along to The Hippodrome on Saturday 5th October from 11.00 – 4.00 for the opportunity to look at examples of rocks, fossils and minerals which form the building blocks of geological features, as well as pebbles and sand samples from local beaches.

Do bring items from your geology collection if you are unsure of their identification and we will try to help you!

Venue: The Hippodrome, Harbour Road, Eyemouth. TD14 5HS

The event is free. No booking needed.
