The Jack Saxon Collection: A first glimpse
Saturday 21st September 2-4pm, and Sunday 22nd September 2-4pm.
(and ongoing every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm-4pm)
Jack Saxon built up a knowledge and reputation on the fossil fishes of the Old Red Sandstone. He published ‘The Fossil Fishes of Caithness’, followed by a second edition ‘The Fossil Fishes of North Scotland’. His large collection of fossils, mainly from the North of Scotland, are now held at the Castletown Heritage Centre and this event (in coordination with the 2024 Doors Open Days Scotland weekend) will reveal the beginnings of their display at the centre. His world wide network of contacts also resulted in swapped, gifted and collected material from beyond the north of Scotland, some of which will also be on display.
Venue: Castletown Heritage Centre, Castletown, Caithness, KW14 8TG
