Open day: West of Scotland Mineral and Lapidary Society

9 June @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

- Free

The West of Scotland Mineral and Lapidary Society invites you to visit their workshop during the Scottish Geology Festival.

Come and watch live demonstrations of stone working, including cutting, shaping, grinding, and polishing a variety of stones. Visitors can also explore a display of handcrafted work by society members and browse a selection of stones available for purchase – ranging from rough specimens to polished pieces and finished jewellery.

The Society’s primary aim is to foster interest in natural minerals and the art of lapidary (the craft of cutting and polishing stones) alongside the associated skills and craftsmanship, all on a non-commercial basis. In addition to lapidary, members now also practice silversmithing and enamelling!

When: Tuesday afternoons (2pm – 5pm) and Thursday evenings (5pm – 9pm) in June

Where: Knightswood Community Centre, 201 Alderman Road, Glasgow

A great opportunity to learn about the artistry and techniques behind working with stone, and to meet passionate makers in an open, welcoming environment.
