The coast at Portsoy is world-famous for its geology – a dramatic section of metamorphic rocks – squashed and cooked by the mountain building events that laid the foundations of the Scottish Highlands. Join us to explore the geology and history, including the celebrated “Portsoy Marble”. See rocks under the microscope at Portsoy Bothy Museum and in dramatic outcrops on the shoreline.

Demonstration (rock hand samples and microscopes with thin sections)

Guided walk on coast, 2-3km on surfaced paths.
