Science and Society
The Trust will work with Scotland’s geological community, including universities, geological societies, museums and visitor attractions, and geoparks to promote geological awareness, teaching, research and the contribution of geoscientists to the economy.
We will campaign to promote the value of geology to society, policy makers and government.
The Trust supports Scotland’s Geodiversity Charter, to promote the importance of geology for Scotland, not just in scenery and geoheritage, but in influencing many aspects of modern life including climate change, flooding and coastal erosion, biodiversity loss and future sustainability.
The Scottish Geology Trust will:
- Promote the value of geology to society, policy makers and government.
- Strengthen links with the geological societies, geoparks, and national parks.
- Work to ensure Scotland’s geology is recognised as internationally significant and promote geotourism in Scotland .
- Take forward Scotland’s Geodiversity Charter, working in partnership with other Charter signatories.
