Education

We want to help inspire the next generation to be geologists by supporting educational programmes that use Scotland’s geology to explore how the planet works and why this influences choices for a sustainable future.

We believe it’s not only important, but necessary to link geological processes and people to environmental sustainability and responding to the climate crisis.

The Trust will provide online resources for young and adult learners to explore Scotland’s geology. We are passionate about encouraging collaboration between schools and universities, to share the excitement and relevance of new research findings, and also look to support taking science out to wider society through outreach projects.

The Scottish Geology Trust will:

  • Support teaching about geology within geography and science curricula, looking for opportunities to train teachers and develop classroom resources.
  • Support organisations such as the Geobus to deliver classroom activities and outdoor learning.
  • Inspire more adult learning about Scotland’s geology through organisations such as Geoparks, adult education programmes and the University of the Third Age.
  • Identify opportunities to link schools and geology STEM ambassadors and careers in Earth Sciences.
