The UK economy has greatly benefited from drilling exploration and production in the North Sea over several decades. And we are well aware that we have contributed to climate change by burning some of the products. But most of us are ignorant of the challenges and hard work that has been involved in this process and the geological story that has subsequently been uncovered.
Wellsite geologist, Garry Paton, will give us a short talk on what is involved during the drilling process from a geological perspective. This will include the interpretation methods used, the stratigraphy of the particular sedimentary basins which are drilled and the technical engineering involved in the drilling of a well. We’ll also consider the future of North Sea and its highly skilled workforce in a rapidly changing world.
