Beach Pebble Event: Scottish Geology of Yorkshire

7 September 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

- Free

As part of the Scottish Geology Festival and the Yorkshire Fossil Festival, we are offering people a unique chance to use the Yorkshire coast to explore the geology of Scotland. How? By hunting for pebbles moved to Yorkshire from Scotland by glaciers!

In this free event in Filey Bay, Dr Katie Strang, Secretary of the Scottish Geology Trust, and Dr Liam Herringshaw, Director of the Yorkshire Fossil Festival, will help you identify some of the huge variety of pebbles found on the Yorkshire Coast, and try to work out which of the pebbles came from Scotland (or even Scandinavia!).

This event is most suitable for persons aged 12 and over. All under-16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

We’ll meet on the beach by the Filey Sailing Club at 11am and walk towards Filey Brigg, before stopping to search for pieces of Scotland (and other evidence of the last Ice Age) on the beach.

Free, click here to book your place! Contact the organiser if you have any questions.
