The EAGE Local Chapter Aberdeen invites you to an Evening Lecture Webinar on 22nd September 2021 18:30 – 19:30 UK time.
Speakers: Nick Schofield, John Howell, Jess Pugsley – Aberdeen University
We will be undertaking a shortened version of a 2-day virtual fieldtrip to the Isle of Skye which was originally run for the Atlantic Margin Conference held in May 2021. The fieldtrip will look at the Triassic to Jurassic basin development and sedimentation in relation to the Atlantic Margin. The trip will also touch on understanding the effect of later Paleogene intrusive and extrusive volcanism on basin history. At all points through the fieldtrip, direct comparison will be made back to the Atlantic Margin, to put the learnings of the fieldtrip in context of the geology and petroleum geology of the Faroe-Shetland Basin and the UKCS. The virtual fieldtrip contains 3D outcrops, well data, seismic data and gravity data to enable communication of complex 3D information over a range of spatial scales. One powerful example that we will show, is being able to compare the scale of the Paleogene-aged Erlend Volcano, now situated 1 km below the seabed of the northern Faroe-Shetland Basin to the Cuillin Volcanic Centre of Skye.
