National Trust Geological Walk from Pettico Wick to St Abb’s Head lighthouse

12 August @ 12:00 am

- Free

Join Alison and Barry Tymon for a short walk of less than 1 km between Pettico Wick and St Abb’s Head lighthouse to look at the rocks and coastal landscapes of the north end of St Abb’s Head, which include folded greywackes, volcanic lavas and a major tectonic fault. A leaflet about the geology of St Abb’s Head will be available.

Meet at Pettico Wick (NT 908 692) [what3words///spot.weary.splashes] ready to start at 11.00.  The nearest parking is at the NTS car park at Northfield, where there is a visitor centre and café, signposted from the B6438 half a kilometre before reaching St Abbs village. The 1.5 km walk along the quiet lane to Pettico Wick takes 30/45 minutes. Pettico Wick can also be reached along footpaths from St Abbs village, where there are car parks and other facilities.

The walk will finish at the lighthouse, where there are superb views of the rocks and cliffs, and you can enjoy a pleasant walk back to St Abbs over the headland or along the lane to Northfield.

Please wear sensible footwear for walking on steep slopes and bring some refreshments with you. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Car parking is available at Pettico Wick, at a cost of £3.00, for vehicles with disabled stickers only. For more information contact Alison on 01890 750338 or 07831 637634.
