A route through the Moine rocks of Lochaber, with ancient seabed ripples in Loch Eil Moine quartzites, highly metamorphosed Glenfinnan Moine rocks with pegmatite veins and folding in the Morar Moine rocks by the sea. Only short distances walked, about 2 kilometres in total, including a short hillside climb and a short walk to a beach; rough ground in places. Meet at the ‘Neptune Staircase’ Canal Locks car park, Fort William, at 10.00 and finishing in Mallaig about 5.00pm. £65 per person.
All excursions require walking boots or similar, waterproofs, packed lunch. Cameras and binoculars recommended.
These eight excursions are a sample of the Geotours being run by Lochaber Geopark this autumn. Other Geotours are also available. Geotours during the Scottish geology Festival are individually priced, per person per day, with a half-price rate for ‘Friends of Lochaber Geopark’ members (£30 pa single membership).
