An introduction to the geology of Glen Coe, including Dalradian basement, pre-volcano land surface, rhyolite lava flows, the North Graben Fault with andesitic debris (optional, up the hillside), and a walk up to the caldera fault on Stob Mhic Mhartuin, about 5 kilometres return (also optional). Meet at the National Trust for Scotland Glen Coe Visitor Centre, 10.00. Part walk, part drive. Excursion finishes in Glen Coe, about 4.00pm. £65 per person.
All excursions require walking boots or similar, waterproofs, packed lunch. Cameras and binoculars recommended.
These eight excursions are a sample of the Geotours being run by Lochaber Geopark this autumn. Other Geotours are also available. Geotours during the Scottish geology Festival are individually priced, per person per day, with a half-price rate for ‘Friends of Lochaber Geopark’ members (£30 pa single membership).
