Join Scottish Geology Trust Trustee Dr Katie Strang for a guided walk along the coast near Limekilns village in West Fife!
The Carboniferous sediments exposed on the shore east of the village of Limekilns were deposited around 330 million years ago when Scotland lay much closer to the equator and experienced a hot and humid climate. The rocks tell a story of changing climates and sea level rise, giant Amazonian sized river systems and coal swamps, violent volcanoes and earthquakes – come along to learn about these ancient environments!
The walk will will start at the Limekilns Coastal Path Carpark (KY11 3JR) and continue east along the coastal path for around 0.5km before heading onto the beach for another 0.5km.. The beach may be slippy underfoot and sensible footwear and clothing is required. Event is weather dependent.
Spaces are limited – book now!
More parking is available next to Limekilns Pier and the number 6 Stagecoach bus runs from Dunfermline to Limekilns. Public toilets are located in the Ship Inn.
