Join James Westland for a virtual field trip to one of the remotest and least visited parts of the Isle of Mull – The Wilderness of Ardmeanach. Starting at Gribun the trip will take you along the coast towards the famous Fossil Tree and will look at how the geology has shaped this dramatic section of coast with its stunning caves, seas stacks and natural arches. Encounter the full age-range of rocks in the Isle of Mull from Moine meta-sediments at the base via rocks of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous age to the uppermost lava flows of Tertiary age that give the Ardmeanach peninsula such a distinctive appearance. The talk will be non-technical and will show parts of the island that the tourist seldom sees!
Organised by Geowalks as part of a series of introductory online talks on Scottish geology – www.geowalks.co.uk/geology-talks/
